Nic Shots FAQS
1. How many nic shots for 10ml?
You do not need a full nic shot for 10ml. A standard nicotine shot is already 10ml, so adding one whole shot to a 10ml bottle would make the liquid far too strong, and it would not fit. For 10ml, you only need a small part of one shot.
As a quick formula, divide the strength you want by the shot strength, then multiply by 10ml. With 18mg nic shots, the amounts are roughly:
-
3mg: about 1.7ml of nic shot
-
6mg: about 3.3ml of nic shot
-
12mg: about 6.7ml of nic shot
2. What does a nic shot do?
A nic shot adds nicotine to a shortfill. In the UK, nicotine e-liquid bottles are limited to 10ml, so shortfills are sold with 0mg nicotine. The nicotine comes separately in a 10ml nicotine shot, which you add yourself. One 18mg nic shot in a 50ml shortfill gives you 3mg, the strength most sub-ohm vapers use.
3. How much nic shot should I add?
Add one 10ml shot for every 50ml of shortfill to reach 3mg. A 50ml shortfill takes one shot, a 100ml takes two, and a 200ml takes four. Each bottle has exactly enough space left for the shots. For any other strength, use a nic shot calculator for your bottle size.
4. Do I put 2 nic shots in my vape juice?
It depends on your bottle. A 100ml shortfill has 20ml of space, so two 18mg nic shots fit and give you 120ml at 3mg. A 50ml shortfill only has room for one shot. If you want more than 3mg, a longfill is a better choice, because you can mix it to any strength you like.
5. What is the difference between nic salts and nic shots?
A nic salt is a ready-mixed 10ml e-liquid with flavour and nicotine already in it, usually 10mg or 20mg, for pod kits. A nic shot is unflavoured nicotine that you add to a shortfill. Nic salt shots are made with salt nicotine, which gives a smoother hit in a big bottle at 3mg.
6. Can you vape nic salt shots on their own?
No. A shot is 18mg or 20mg of unflavoured nicotine and is not made to be vaped on its own. Add it to a shortfill first. If you want a 20mg liquid for a pod kit, buy a 10ml nic salt instead, which is flavoured and mixed for that purpose.
7. Is 18mg or 20mg the right shot?
18mg nic shots are the standard, and the 3mg rule above is based on them. A 20mg shot is the nic salt option at 50/50 and gives about 3.3mg in a 100ml bottle, a difference most people will not notice. Choose by type and ratio first, because the 2mg difference is the smallest thing on the label.
